Benign Growth Removal

The skin, being the largest organ in the body, is prone to forming various types of benign growths, including angiomas, seborrheic keratoses, and sebaceous hyperplasias.

If you have a growth on your skin, Dr. Jones will first make sure the growth is not a skin cancer.

After determining the exact type of growth, treatment options will be discussed with you.

How are benign growths removed?

The removal of your benign growth will largely depend on the type of growth, location, and background skin color. Most growths can be removed via:

  1. Liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy): freezing the growth can cause it to crust and fall off

  2. Electrodessication: lightly burning the growth

  3. Extraction: lancing the surface of the growth to express its contents

  4. Shave removal: scraping the growth using a blade

  5. Surgical excision: cutting into the growth to remove it, which often requires stitches

Will my skin growth treatment be covered by insurance?

Many health insurance companies do not cover the treatment of benign skin growths, because they are often deemed “not medically necessary”. We will always discuss coverage and cost with you at your visit.
