Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags are common, fleshy, pedunculated growths of the very top layer of the skin.

Skin tags commonly occur on the face, neck, axilla, groin, and lower chest.

While most skin tags do not cause symptoms, occasionally they can be traumatized by clothing or grooming, which can lead to bleeding and pain.

How can skin tags be removed?

Skin tags are best removed in a medical setting. Attempting to remove a skin tag at home could result in bleeding, infection, and scarring. The main ways of removing skin tags include:

  1. Snip excision: using a scissor to cut the skin tag flush with the surrounding skin. This method works best for pedunculated skin tags.

  2. Electrodessication: using a heated cautery tip to lightly burn off the skin tag. This procedure works best for small or flat skin tags.
