Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers serve a multitude of purposes in cosmetic medicine. They are used to “fill in” individual lines and to add volume to certain facial structures. In the right hands, dermal fillers are an essential tool in helping patients achieve a more youthful appearance without the need for surgery.
Dr. Isabela Jones completed a prestigious fellowship in cosmetic dermatology and has been involved in clinical trials studying the latest advances in dermal fillers. Dr. Jones is an expert injector with intimate knowledge of facial anatomy, the aging process, filler properties, and the safest injection techniques. You can trust Dr. Jones to provide you with a natural result where the filler “is not seen”.
What are dermal fillers?
There are several types of FDA-approved dermal fillers. Each has unique properties and longevity. Dr. Jones will select the best products for you. These most commonly used types are:
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers: these are made of cross-linked chains of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occuring substance. Various versions are available, including Juvéderm XC, Voluma, Vollure, Volbella, Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Kysse, Restyane Defyne and Refyne, Belotero, and the RHA collection. HA fillers naturally break down into water and carbon dioxide over time, and last anywhere between 9 months to 2 years. If needed, these fillers can be broken down more quickly using a substance called hyaluronidase.
Calcium hydroxylapatitite (CaHa): these fillers are made of a mineral substance found in human bone. In addition to its ability to volumize an area, CaHa also stimulates new collagen and elastin production in the skin. Radiesse is the only FDA-approved CaHA filler. Results typically last about 18 months.
Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA): Sculptra is the main PLLA dermal filler available in the United States. PLLA stimulates the production of new collagen and its effects can last 2 years or longer.
